AWS re:Invent 2019: Guide and tips

At this end of the year, Cloud Computing experts have only one appointment not to be missed: AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas. This new edition will be held from 2 to 6 December. More than 60,000 participants are expected. Nearly 2500 sessions, classes and workshops are planned. For AWS, this great gathering is crucial and its objective is clear: to prove once again its position as market leader.

If you want to catch up on Cloud Computing trends, AWS re:Invent 2019 is the unmissable event. It is aimed at those already familiar with AWS services (developers, engineers, system architects…), but also at beginners.

Year after year, this major event aims to be more and more playful and educational.

On the programme:

  • 4 highlights with the keynotes,
  • times for discovery and learning with more than 2500 sessions, classes and workshops.
  • and a summit for CIO leaders, the Executive Summit, from 3 to 5 December. https://reinvent.awsevents.com/learn/executive_summit/ The objective of this summit is to bring together leaders from all over the world to discuss the challenges that the Cloud offers us.

To help you find your way around this substantial programme, here is a focus on the “How to re:Invent” show, the session catalogue, the AWS heroes’ guides, and the keynotes not to be missed.

THE PROGRAMME

  • AWS re:Invent the live show
  • The session catalogue
  • The AWS heroes’ guides
  • The 2019 keynotes

AWS re:Invent the live show

Again this year, Jill Fagan (senior program manager AWS) and Annie Hancock (Head of creative & customer expériences AWS) break down this event in their show “How to re:Invent”, available on YouTube. They invite key experts, focus on tips and tricks not to be missed, and so help us to get the most out of this huge conference. Here is the list of available videos:

The value of this web show is that it is easy to access. It allows us to dive into the particularly dense programme of this new edition in an entertaining way. And above all, it reflects the AWS philosophy: making itself accessible to as many people as possible.

The session catalogue

Last year, AWS offered 1800 sessions presenting its services. This year, they are taking on even greater scale, as there will be 2500 of them. They are organised in different formats: 20-minute presentations, bootcamps, classes, workshops, spotlights lab, builder sessions with an AWS expert…

And they cover every possible subject at AWS: Alexa, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Blockchain, Database, IoT, Serverless, Architecture, Mobile…

You can discover them via this portal >>

Several of them will probably be available on the Amazon Web Service YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd6MoB9NC6uYN2grvUNT-Zg

The AWS heroes’ guides

As we know, the strength of AWS lies in particular in its community. Through the AWS Hero programme, this Cloud provider brings together many experts on its services.

These heroes have decided to take us by the hand for this re:Invent. To help you find your way through this mass of sessions, several of them have written the following guides. Machine Learning, Security, DevOps, AWS Certification, many subjects are covered. Their objective is to help you find events that may interest you on one topic or another, and this according to your level (beginner or experienced):

  • Kesha Williams, “Machine Learning Guide”
  • Mark Nunnikhoven, “Practical Security”
  • Cyrus Wong, “AWS Educators Guide”
  • Dave Stauffacher, “Storage Enthusiast Guide”
  • Drew Firment, “Getting Starts With AWS Guide”
  • Eric Hammond, “Advanced Serverless Guide”
  • Francisco Edilton, “Analytics Guide”
  • Guy Ernest, “Enterprise Transformation Guide”
  • Margaret Valtierra, “Introverts Guide”
  • Martin Buberl, “Startup Guide”
  • Peter Sbarski, “AWS DeepRacer Guide”

  • Thorsten Höger, “Programming in the Cloud Guide”
  • Tung Nguyen, “AWS Container Guide”

Finally, the 2019 keynotes

4 keynotes are planned this year. They will once again be the opportunity to discover the new AWS products and services. Here they are:

  • At Monday Night Live, on 2 December, Peter DeSantis, vice-president AWS Global Infrastructure and Customer Support, will invite you to discover how the AWS infrastructure provides the most flexible, reliable and secure Cloud computing environment.
  • Andy Jassy, CEO of AWS, on 3 December, will share the AWS new releases.
  • At the Global Partner Summit, on 4 December, Doug Yeum, head of AWS Worldwide Channels and Alliances, will explain to us how to innovate and grow with AWS.
  • Finally, Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO of amazon.com, will talk to us, on 5 December, about the technical foundations of AWS services and the architectural design investments made by Amazon.

If you want to catch up on the announcements made at the end of 2018, last year’s keynotes are still available online:

In conclusion: If you want to make the most of this event, we strongly advise you to start preparing for it. The Premaccess team is waiting for you there to discuss your development projects.

At the end of this new edition, AWS will announce new releases for 2020. We will come back to this in a new article. To stay informed on this subject, feel free to follow us via our blog or on our social networks (Twitter and LinkedIn)!
