Health is a subject we have long been passionate about at premaccess and one that, today more than ever, makes complete sense. Humanity now has the most powerful tools to answer the problems facing us, and yet we are vulnerable. 

So, to change the angle a little, we have put together a short list of the innovations we follow closely, because for us they are representative of the world of tomorrow, of the one we want to build with you. And when technology carries meaning, we like it! 

Some solutions sometimes look as if they came out of a science fiction film, and yet. They really are concrete solutions that can be used today or are under development.

Medicine and technology: artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain in the service of the common good

1. New chemical molecules for drug research

2. Screening for heart disease: measuring blood flow instantly and accurately

By comparing the results generated by the #AI with each patient’s health records, the team found that patients whose blood flow was reduced were at greater risk of dying from a heart attack, a #stroke or heart failure.

For the first time, the tool proved capable of predicting which patients might die or suffer major adverse cardiovascular events, better than a doctor could do alone with traditional approaches.

3. Predicting the probability of a haemorrhagic shock or a head trauma event

The aim is to develop prediction models and, in time, to build a services platform.

The project will draw on the resources of the #Traumabase registry, fed by a network of around a hundred emergency physicians and anaesthetist-intensivists across France.

And which brings together the hospitalisation and remission data of 20,000 admissions for severe trauma in France.

In time, the tool being #developed, which uses artificial intelligence, will make it possible to predict the probability of a haemorrhagic shock or a head trauma event, and also to adjust the care strategy.

4. Predicting the progression of neurodegenerative diseases to better anticipate the course of illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease

The #algorithm was able to detect the different gene expressions of these patients over decades through the analysis of blood samples and post-mortem brain tissue from 1,969 patients and with the help of an AI algorithm and #deeplearning techniques.

5. Improving the efficiency of medical imaging and optimising patient flows

7. Improving the trust, security and auditability of medical data

Blockchain technology would answer the issues of trust, security and auditability of this data, thereby complementing the #AI and #IoT offerings based on that same data.

In a study, Acumen indicated that the global blockchain market in the health sector should grow by 48.1% by 2026 and reach more than 1.7 billion dollars.

8. Connecting our brain to a machine  

The answer is yes, after @Neuralink in July on rats, Elon Musk is planning the first human trials of his #transhumanist interface from the end of 2020.

Thanks to a bundle of “brain cords” connected to our neurons, we would increase our intellectual capacities and would even be able to control #AI so that it does not end up taking over!

9. Having surgery without a doctor present 

Technologically speaking, that is entirely possible. Many of you understand and tell yourselves that technology and #artificialintelligence could be a great opportunity for progress for their health.

The road is likely to be long and complicated to develop this method because in France, 78% of the patients surveyed would not accept fully automated diagnoses or care procedures, without human oversight.

10. Detecting lung cancer

Lung cancer is the cancer that causes the most deaths in the world. Every year, 1.7 million people die from it according to the figures of the World Health Organization (WHO). Once detected, the prognosis is often life-threatening, hence the importance of screening for it as early as possible. To gain accuracy and speed, artificial intelligence is increasingly used in the field of radiology. Google has developed an AI that makes it possible to detect the cancer as early as possible.

11. Detecting heart attacks from the sound of the voice 

A revolution in sight in emergency call centres!

The #AI technology runs in the background of incoming emergency calls and picks up the caller’s keywords, language and sound patterns that may indicate that the patient is having a heart attack. And if the AI detects it, a priority ambulance is sent.

The State of Victoria in Australia has announced that it will inject 800,000 euros to continue the project.

12. Collecting more information through a chatbot 

The purpose of putting Jeanne in place (yes, the #chatbot is called Jeanne) is to obtain as much information as possible upstream so that the appointment with the specialist is as effective as it can be as soon as it takes place.

Thanks to this, we will be able to make the best use of medical resources and also improve the personalisation of the experience.

13. Drawing blood with very high precision

American researchers have designed a robot #prototype capable of finding and puncturing a vein accurately in order to avoid these drawbacks.

With an overall success rate of 87% for the 31 participants whose blood was drawn. And, for the 25 people whose veins were easy to access, the rate rose to 97%. By way of comparison, health professionals have a success rate of 73% in patients with no visible veins and 60% for people with no palpable veins.
